Using Yoast for SEO

Yoast optimizes SEO for WordPress blogDo you know one of the best things about a blog?  Blogs attract Search engines like flowers attract hummingbirds.

Why?

Because search engines love blogs. Each time you write a blog post, you are creating keywords that will be indexed by the search engines.  Whenever someone on the Internet types in your keywords, your indexed blog post will come up in their search results.

This is how you get lots of free traffic to your blog. And this traffic is very targeted, because they are very interested in the topics you are writing about.

In this article you are going to learn how to greatly improve your WordPress blog’s SEO.

How? By using the free Yoast plug-in.

What is Yoast and What is a PlugIn?

Yoast is a third-party company that specializes in Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  They have a Free plug-in that will help your blog posts rank higher in Google search. As you use the Yoast plug-in, you become your own SEO expert.

What is a plug-in?  A plug-in is simply a short piece of code that performs a specific job.  These are sometimes also called scripts.  Plug-in’s are great because you don’t need any special skills to use them.

You don’t have to be a programmer or know anything about writing code.  You just download the plug-in and it starts working on your WordPress blog immediately after you activate it.  And there are thousands of free plug-in’s that will perform thousands of free tasks on your blog.

Watch This Video to Learn How to Use Yoast

This video will show you step-by-step how to use the free Yoast plugin for SEO.  I recently attended the WordPress Meetup group in New York City where this video was made.  The video runs about 20 minutes, and it is worth watching every minute.

Please watch the entire video, as it is one of the best lessons you will ever get in Search Engine Optimization for your WordPress blog.

How to Download Your Free Yoast Plugin

Loading your own free copy of the Yoast plug-in is very easy.  Go to your WordPress blog post editor.  Scroll down the left sidebar until you come to Plugins.

Hover your mouse over Plugin and select Add New.  Go to this page and in the Search box type Yoast.  Select download plugin.  Once Yoast is downloaded, select Activate plugin.

What About Using Tags?

The Yoast plug-in helps you create a focus keyword or phrase for your blog post and then structure the blog post around that keyword or phrase.  Google Search will use this focus keyword or phrase only to index your blog post.

Google no longer uses keyword tags.

But I suggest that you go ahead and use the Keywords Tags. Google may no longer use them, but other search engines like Bing and Yahoo still do. So you will still get some traffic from adding the Keyword Tags each time to your blog post.

The Keyword Tags are found in your blog post editor along the right-hand column.  It only takes a minute to add five or seven keyword tags here. And that’s all you need here.
