Are you looking to grow your art career? Do you want to become a professional artist? I have three little words for you: Network, Network, Network.
Networking is the main way that business gets done in any industry around the world. Networking is tried and true. Nothing works better to grow your career than networking.
Did you know that 60 percent of all artists who are currently being represented by galleries in large markets such as New York City got there through networking with other artists. They met artists who were already being represented by galleries and these artists recommended them to their art gallery. Do you see how powerful that is?
So where are the best places to network? The best places to network are at the gallery openings. I’ve made a short video of a gallery opening in the Chelsea Arts District in Manhattan. In the video below you can see why networking is so easy at a gallery opening.
It’s almost like a party atmosphere at a gallery opening as you can see in the video above. This is the perfect setting to grab yourself a glass of wine or bottle of beer and strike up a conversation with the person standing next to you. You’ll have plenty to talk about so don’t be afraid to take the plunge. You can talk about the art that’s being shown at the opening, or just about art in general. The other people there are probably artists just like you.
And think about this: Some of the other artists at these openings are being represented by other galleries. You stand a very good chance at meeting someone who can later introduce you to a new gallery director. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and network, my friend.
In my ebook Secrets to Selling Art, I talk about networking and other ways to meet art gallery directors. I also give you very clear and straightforward strategies for growing your art whether you live near a large art market or not. Click here to learn more about: Secrets to Selling Art.
